Just got a job as an interpreter for NOLA. Argentinian in origin she speaks Spanish, French, and English.

The first girl was Lucy Barton. Only three girls so far.

We went and saw Dr. Wexford, gained valuable insight and we’d get a few names of individuals who worked in those areas..

So waiting for information of how the brain works wihtin our issues..
Thaddeus likes Mike’s idea of searching the river, but realized it happens within the early morning hours.. so that means if we were to look it would be best at dusk under similar circumstances.

2pm in the afternoon, we have four hours to kill before Dusk..

we are back at the Promethian and walk down to the river. We see mostly docks and the French Market bustling and busy.

Went to study the site of Jenn Morales’ abduction. We went to leave, but we discover Abby found a cufflink that had a W engraved on it.

Thaddeus spends a Fate point on Dr. Wexford’s Assistant and gets a +1 total.

After several Notice rolls, nothing results in any discernible information due to the government buildings.

The first girl was found by her mother. Morales was found by a police officer. The second aka Jane Doe was found by the sanitation crew.

We decide Lucy Barton was found catatonic on the other side of the Quarter. We walk for ten minutes.

Right past Canal Street,

I roll a +4 Investigate, but nothing jumps out at us.

There are just a few blocks from the second site, aka Jane Doe’s site.

The second site, which has less foot traffic, but more horse and carriage traffic is outside the center of the ciy with several transients..

There’s a lot of traffic getting out of the harbor, but nothing specific..

His name is Joe and he said his captain will be there in the morning if Mike wishes to speak with Captain Abraham..

At dock level, there are a terrifying steel-encompassed sea-faring vessels..

Reached Minor Milestone of finishing the scenario by finding the killer.

Detective Murphy expresses his gratitude and if we get into any trouble with the law to let him know and he’ll see what he can do to remedy our problem(s). Kearin appreciates the offer, as We did Murphy a huge solid with finding the villain.

Hugo drops an envelope on our table as he delivers us drinks at the Promethian a few days later when he was serving us drinks. He didn’t know who left it.

Same handwriting as before, basically the city is grateful that we helped out and it’s good to know that there are people who can be relied upon. Enclosed is the rest of the payment. They have spoken with the DA’s office, should we find ourselves in a difficult situation — dependent on the severity of the issue — we get a free pass. Limited, but this is our one get out of almost going to jail for free card.

Mike visited the library to find out of technology was being used for criminal purposes.

Meredith is doing what is typical for her in a normal day.

Thaddeus checks in at the lab. Dr. Wexford is in between projects. University has nothing on tap, and he has a couple of personal projects he is working on, but nothing he can bring to the school.

Thaddeus has noticed on occasion that he sometimes shows up a little worse for wear — cuts, bruises, and burns.. Thaddeus felt it was rude to discuss, but it is becoming a bit more common.

Doc comes in one day and says he has been talking to a member of the U.S. military for a possible University developed but military-funded project. Details are being worked on, but he’ll need assistance. I receive a list of things to order from tools to simple supplies.

Thaddeus probes (roll of Rapport of a total 2) about the issues. A couple of projects he’s working on haven’t been going quite as well as expected.

Abby, Dr. Wexford’s personal assistant at his private lab, is aware he’s developing a sound gun — shoot it and someone passes out. In theory at least..

Thaddeus questions Abby about the state of Dr. Wexford’s affairs in research and experimentation.

Abby relates he is working on a sound gun that would subdue individuals until they are able to be apprehended. It has peaceful and militaristic aspects..

As a test subject, he uses it himself in the evenings as a vigilante fighting crime. Sometimes it works. Sometimes not so much.

In fact, that’s how she and he met!

She was wandering by, saw him fighting criminals and losing, she ran in to assist and then she was losing, too, and then eventually the weapon works and they survive to lose another day.

Back at the Promethean, we have an errand boy pop in and deliver us a letter.

A quickly scrawled note, “If you have the time, please meet me at the asylum.”

Detective Murphy has a case for us if we want it.

We are led to the back, where there is a gate and set of French doors. People out here are less troublesome. Pretty blonde 17 year old girl in a wheelchair staring into the black.

She is not the first to enter with such a condition. Yesterday she was vibrant and active. SHe is the daughter of an ambassador to Argentina. The father is American. Needless to say, he has a lot of heat on him to get done, but he has so many other tasks he is overwhelmed.. if we’re interested, since we served well prior, he could use the help..

Murph doesn’t know, this is so high-profile he was just read in..

The others remain at the asylum no changes still catatonic.

Dr. Somebody mentions he has been taking care of the previous two and is currently overseeing the third girl. There has been no discernible change in them whatsoever.

If you put food IN their mouth, they will eat.

Right on her hairline behind her ear Mike notices an electrical burn on either side of her head.

There’s another mark on the right side of two of them and the left side of another, no idea if it is hand-dominant.
The princess is 17, another 19 abd the third late 20s she’s the second victim.

We interview the second girl. Light brown hair, attractive but not as pretty as the first girl. Light and pale skin.

No IV’s or anything..

She responds physically to electroshnock therapy..

Her next treatment is tomorrow

We finish at the Asylum, and then follow up at the Royal street police station for copies of the police report.

We review the reports. All found near the last scene area.

All discovered after dusk/dawn.

All kind of on the fringe of the Quarter and near the river.

The review is that each was active and in the same area.

We know the Ambassador is American born, married to Argentinian royalty, and he’s been in the city a few weeks..

Mere rolls a 0, she’s heard the Ambassador’s disposition. He’s more active with merchants.

Discussion over why they were electrocuted, but we all agree the location is less travelled and suspect.

Meredith spends a fate point to insert story details..

We head toward the University expecting Dr. Wexford will be there.

He isn’t in his lab at the University.

Dr. Wexford does have an office that he rarely ever uses.

We knock.

There’s a noise.

Someone under the desk, flipping papers..

Dr. Wexford appears to answer our questions.

It is possibly loa-voltage, high-duration exposure since they are still alive..

Thaddeus spends a fate point to aid Dr. Wexford’s recollection..

He has heard of some tryin to do different things with the brain.

Doc will give us names of those who are experts of electricity especially the body town.

Doc doesn’t think it is a weapon, but rather personable for specific application.

Four possibilities:

1. Some way to override the body’s controls. Full on body control. They are your automaton.

2. A study to see how signals interact between brain and body. Specifically if I command you to do this what in the brain controls that..

3. Mapping the brain.

4. Taking infofmation from the brain itself..

Maybe he is targeting women because they can take more pain, but they’ll go unsconscious with a smaller voltage. If they are unconscious they likely won’t feel it, but if they need them awake for study, tnen they are.

Intro 2, The End of a Magic Murderer

May 3rd, 1880

Kat goes to the Post Office and mails the Mexican guy’s possessions home.

She has Mike’s and her own files. Meredith and myself keep our own meticulously.

There is no discernible pattern as to the victims of the crimes.

The past few nights Abby has gone over the library to give us any benefit on the Pentagrams and the symbols. Last night she found an exact match in a fiction book authored by a non-descript author from some 30 something years ago.

Brian stays at the Promethian and the douchebag reads the book so the vulgar lady can get things done.

Mike then cock blocks reading as he invokes my Trouble aspect of “Yeah, I’ll get to that..”

People I know come in and repeatedly distract me from reading the book.

The group comes across a good bookstore which contains 2 fiction books of his, the new one on ancient mummies, Egypt, and curses.

They purchase the book.

The group returns to the Promethrian.

The group returns and steals the book back because Mike’s a douchebag and I have no willpower.

Detective Joseph Murphy is the lead.

Kat speaks to Detective Murphy.

Two autopsies have come back. Another may return today.

An unfamiliar substance was in the blood, but the coroner has zero clue as to what it could be, and he’s very experienced.

Those are the shopkeeper and bartender girl.

We are told to bring the individual in asap after discussing candles. Down on their luck but not homeless due to requiring tools to manufacture candles. If there is a bulk and consistent buyer of candles that may be it.

Detective Murphy is waiting for the results and is anxious for any feedback.

Abby thinks Thaddeus has the best rapport, and advocates Thadeus being a douchebag furthermore.

Thadeus rolls even and gets a +5 due to Abby’s assistance on his base +3 rapport.

Most frequented candle customers are female, the male is older who tends to routinely buy from him.. 50’s..

There has been one lady who routinely has purchased for the last month and gives us an address.

Abby rolled empathy and Thaddeus spent a fate point to give her a +7 to assist her in calming him down and find out potentially more information.

He is hiding something.

He has heard the author’s name per Kat’s query.

Everyone thinks “Thaddeus being good at everything.” is terrible and his attempt at swaying the purveyor fails. Hard.

Abby attempts to persuade him with “You haven’t heard of AUTHOR NAMES omgz!!!”

The potential Murderers of Thaddeus are trailing the individual aka Mike and Meredith.

Stealth track rolls are 3 for Mere and she spends a fate point as Team Player to allow Mike to reroll his -3 into a -1..
Thaddeus is the simple cousin to Lady Broadzilla.

He has some functional candles..

Kat queries what is the burn time.. 3-4 hours..

At midnight they’d be out by daytime..

So Brian is now Simple Syrup with the tagline Easier To Use.

She gets her candles from a travelling peddler due to them being cheaper.

Same peddler.

Thaddeus spends a Fate Point to reroll a -3 empathy roll and gets a +1 with fixing that..

Thaddeus rolls a +4 rapport, she is often closed on Sundays and Mondays and is busy but doesn’t think she sees him anywhere else.

Mike and Meredith follow the Tinkerer and find nothing of substance.

Detective Murphy welcomes us back and has the notes for the next autopsy which is the British Tourist. Tuberculosis and an unidentifiable subtancee in her blood except through tests.

So there are sections that are up and down the torso?

The “cuts are clean in segments, and in pairs are choppy, but they appear clean individually.”

The coroner ruled out medical equipment…

Luca aka Kat’s charachter postulates what if it is to test each organ..?

This is someone who either doesn’t care who they are killing or is a form of sociopath.

No idea on the substance in the blood.. nothing he has come across.. a sedative or paralytic..

Intro, or a Magic Murderer

April 26, 2015

Each character receives an official document from the city reuqesting our presence at the Promethian this afternoon around 4pm to “discuss business.”

Kearin (Mike), Lady Abigail Corrington (Metedith), Lieutenant Luc aka Lucresia (Kat), and Thaddeus (Brian) prepare themselves to attend the city-invited event with everything we would normally have on our person.

We all arrived at the tavern, made some small talk, and ultimately were told by the bartender Hugo Ursa that there were some men in fancy duds in the back awaiting a group of folk holding letters.

Eventually we made our way to the back of the Promethian to one of the larger back meeting rooms.

We meet a large well-dressed man who lets us in. A portly well-dressed man is seated. The door closes behind us as the large man stands resolutely against it.

Mr. Florence is the large man. The portly gentleman says we are skilled and can keep our mouths shut from what he has been told.

We receive a portfolio each of us.

Details of a crime that the local and acclaimed police force cannot solve are inside these case files.

Why bring in outsiders?

There’s troubling aspects.

Police reports of 4 dead with slashes throats, removed organs, and arcane symbols …

4 dead. 4 reports. 4 of us. We each have an individual report.

Meredith rolls a 5 on Lore. Brian rolls a 3.

At 5, the symbols look like

Isabella, slender 19 year old, Chartres Street, found dead, in a pentagram covered with glyphs, she was missing her heart, she’d been dead at least 2-3 days, the smell alerted neighbors. Had a few friends, new to the city, friends and co-workers checked out. She was a bartender. Only worked a couple days a week. She was last seen alive April 3rd day of death.(Kat)

Shopkeeper. Merchant. Michael. 36 years old. He had his heart. Missing his liver. Same details. No witnesses. No sounds. Family and employees checked out. Died April 8th. (Meredith)

Elizatbeth English tourist visiting friends in 7th ward. Reported missing April 19th. Body found 20th of April. Same circumstances. Missing her lungs. (Mike)

Raul Lopez a Mexican born immigrant working fields of cotton baron George Ormond. Reported visiting JL’s Blacksmith Shop after deliveries. Left shortly after midnight and never returned. He was found yesterday April 24th.. missing his stomach and most of small intestines. (Brian)

The portly gentleman deftly avoids Thaddeus’ attempt to find out who he is.

He has bought a week’s time before the press will run the story.

He wants us to solve it before then.

Kearin asks how to contact them, Mr. Florence hands us a card.

Address for a local police station. The desk sergeanth will know what to do with it.

Payment, as asked by Luc, is questioned.

Mr. Florence hands us a wad of cash. Our retainer.

Should we fail, so be it.

Should we find the murderer, in that case, we’ll gain favor with the local Governor.

Wanted dead or alive. Preferred alive.

The local detectives are aware of our involvement. Anything we need to know we can ask them.

The missing liver merchant was known to never drink based on Kat’s investigation.

The missing lungs lady had early stage Tuberculosis. She arrived April 10th.

Meredith investigates regarding the skill of the surgery removing the Organs. Brian uses a fate point (1 of 2) for team player to improve her score of 1 to 3.

Mike spends a fate point having Thaddeus’ back achieving a 5 succeeding in style.

We notice the cuts do look ragged. Most of them..

The torso cuts are ragged. The throat cut is very clean!

We also notice that in all of the pictures the Mexican looks like zero struggle. Same with the English girl. The merchant? same. No struggle. Bartender looks like a slight struggle.. door is slightly off. Mirror in background missing.

We are only a block from Lafitte’s so we decide to go there first.

Discussion was over multiple murderers (Kat), a red herring where one was killed and the others were to confuse police (Mike), and that an assassin was hired to slit the the throats and so those were clean but cutting out organs is not (Brian)..

Lore check of 5 (Brian) is clear that Voodoo was not involved in any manner of any of the murders.

We find out the Mexican was completely hammered when he left the Blacksmith’s shop. Tequila. Blew his money on getting trashed.

Brisca is the contact to the underworld for the group.

The Mexican left in the middle of the night.

Anytime he made a delivery he’d stay and get drunk.

The Mexican is chatty, but doesn’t seek out attention.

There was one guy who was here, bought him a drink, they spoke for a while, and this guy looked pissed off. Nothing more than that. Eventually he left.

Mexican no real next of kin.

Elizabeth had family back home, was visiting relatives.

Merchant had a wife. No kids.

Isabella was also an immigrant with no listed family in the city.

Two crime scenes in the area. The Mexican and the bartender. We head on the other side of Rampart toward the Mexicans. The alley smells like death littered with flies.

We recover one melted candle from the scene.

Good neighborhood.

No blood on windows, all closed due to the effects of death.

We head to bed. Resume in the morning.

Head to the nearest chandler to pursue the candle angle.

The expert says the candles look home-made and not from any of the shops he is aware. The murderer used wickws that weren’t standard. The wax was a mix of melted down candlewax. They probably worked for a chandler because of the color consistency, but the impurities clearly show a mix of candle’s wax.

His recommendation is to ask around the St. Bernard Market or the French Market as to a place we’d find something like this.

We arrive at a chandler just outside the French Market. A guy selling red candles out of a suitcase. Kat bought the candle.

We browsed the French Market. Everything was generic.

We returned to the gentleman outside the French Quarter.
The party meets the butler of the plantation where Raul worked.

Brian ordered sweet tea.

Mr. George said that Raul helped with deliveries.

He was there 2 years. Sent money back home. Was chatty.

Easy to get along with but pissed off folks because he’d be blunt about things.

He ate what everyone else did.

“That’s a shame, I prefer things special.” CREEPY VOICE FTW

It’s late in the day now.

He enjoyed talking in Spanish anytime he could.

4. Create some NPCs

Characters form the core of every campaign, so take a few minutes to list out the major NPCs in your campaign.

A quick tip: The “+” icon in the top right of every section is how to add a new item, whether it’s a new character or adventure log post, or anything else.

5. Write your first Adventure Log post

The adventure log is where you list the sessions and adventures your party has been on, but for now, we suggest doing a very light “story so far” post. Just give a brief overview of what the party has done up to this point. After each future session, create a new post detailing that night’s adventures.

One final tip: Don’t stress about making your Obsidian Portal campaign look perfect. Instead, just make it work for you and your group. If everyone is having fun, then you’re using Obsidian Portal exactly as it was designed, even if your adventure log isn’t always up to date or your characters don’t all have portrait pictures.
